The first national university in Burma
Pre-war Mandalay Intermediate College was upgraded to Mandalay University College under University of Rangoon in 1947 under the auspice of Mr. Abdul Razak (B.A., National College) , the then minister of education in Aung San’s cabinet and, with the full support of the Upper Burmese intellectuals and people, it was developed into a separate university in 1958. The 55th anniversary of Mandalay Separate University should be commemorated in June as there was no particular event in 2008 golden jubilee.
